We welcome everyone to join us for an online session of Devi Mahatmya recitation this Sunday, March 22 on the auspicious Krishna Paksha Chaturdasi day to invoke Goddess Sri Chandika Mahalakshmi to cast her benign grace on our ailing planet.
In the 12th chapter of the sacred Devi Mahatmyam, called 'the Bhagavati Vaakya' or 'the words of the Goddess', Chandika Mahalakshmi lists the benefits of chanting or listening to the Devi Mahatmyam wherein she vows to ward off all kind of epidemics. She is the Ultimate Chit-Sakti - the all pervasive energy of Consciousness which brings forth and manifests the world we live. When we pray with sraddha, Chandika Mahalakshmi, as Chit-shakti guarantees the fulfilment of noble desires meant for the benefit of the entire world.
Tantras say a Samputita Parayanam (Interweaving selected mantras or slokas with each of the 700 verses of Devi Mahatmya) is very effective and is a powerful way of propitiating the Goddess. The mantra prescribed by Tantra Sastra to ward off killer epidemics affecting humanity is the first verse from Argala Stotram.
jayantī mangalā kāli bhadrakālī kapālinī |
durgā kshamā ŝivā dhātrī swāhā svadhā namostutē ||
We will prefix each verse of Devi Mahatmyam with the first line of above verse and suffix with second line.
Also, the entire Devi Mahatmya Parayanam will begin and end with chanting 54 times of a key verse from the chapter Narayani Stuti
ṡāraṇāgata dīnārta paritrāṇa parāyaṇē |
sarvasȳarti harē dēvi nārāyaṇī namostutē ||
