Seminar on Sri Chakra Puja through Bhāvanopaniṣad in Virginia - August 24 & 25

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha, Sri Maatre Namaha.

We are delighted to announce that we will be conducting the first residential Seminar on ‘Sri Chakra Puja through Bhavanopanishad’ in the East Coast, in Washington D.C. area, during the weekend of August 24 & 25, 2024.

Śrī Cakra ārādhanā to the deity MahāTripuraSundarī is a sātvic method of worship, comprising three modes or divisions: The first is bahir -yāga or bāhya pūjā (external worship), where devotees worship Devī either in a female human form or as a yantra. The second is japā, the chanting of mantras audible only to the person reciting them. The third mode is antar-yāga or internal worship, where the sādhakā or practitioner meditates upon the divine for extended periods without being distracted by external thoughts or disturbances.

The detailed method of internal worship is elaborated in the Vedic text Bhāvanopaniṣad. Our Kula-Guru, Śrī Bhāskararāya Makhīn, has provided a comprehensive instructional guide to this internal worship, known as the Bhāvanopaniṣad Prayoga Vidhi or Mahāyāga-Kramaḥ. The Mahāyāga-Kramaḥ has the vaiśiṣtyam (special distinction) of combining all the modalities of Śrī Cakra ārādhanā: bãhya-puja, nyāsa, japā and antar-yāga along with bhāvanā (mindful contemplation); and delivering the benefits thereof. In this text, the entire Sri Chakra Puja is intricately mapped onto the human body.

During the Seminary retreat, we will explore the insights of the Vedic text Bhavanopanishad through the commentary written by Sri Bhaskararāya Makhin.

Our Guru, Śrī Śrī Vimarśānandanāthendra Saraswatī Swāmigaḷ, devoted the last 15 years of his physical presence on this Earth to the Bhāvanopaniṣad Prayoga Vidhi. He considered it the simplest and most effective method to gain the divine grace of the guru maṇḍala and MahāTripuraSundarī.

All participants of the Seminar will receive our recently published illustrated translation of Sri Bhaskararaya’s commentary and application treatise (Prayoga Vidhi) on the Bhavanopanishad. This book will be a useful companion to apply the learning from the Seminar for regular sādhana.

Please register using the form given in the Flyer below as early as possible to reserve your spot.

‘cintita kāryāṇi-ayatnena siddhyanti’ - Bhavanopanishad

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha. Sri Maatre Namaha.

Namaskarams

It’s now a month since we performed Ati Rudram & Shata Chandi event at Varanasi. Our hearts brim with happiness and gratitude. Doing these events in our home towns is relatively easy. Doing the event in a city like Varanasi can be extremely challenging!

Our sankalpam to perform this event at Varanasi was rooted for multiple reasons.

Banks of river Ganga and the place between the river Asi and Vaarana where Ganges flows North is known to be the most auspicious place according to our puranas. Also, Gurus from our Parampara travelled all the way from Southern part of India to Varanasi to do their sadhana and attain Siddhi in the holy city of Varanasi popularly called Kashi. We believe they still live there in the Avyakta roopa - in their Sookshma or subtle form. Ati Rudram in Varanasi was a way of offering our learning to their Holy feet.

There is an inscription on the banks of River Ganga in Assi Ghat that says:

‘Devi Durga, after slaying the dreaded demon brothers, Shumbh-Nishumbh, in a fierce battle, threw down her sword (asi), which broke the ground creating a river named Asi. At the confluence of the Asi and Ganga lies this ghat.’ What could be a more auspicious place to perform Ati Rudram and Shata Chandi?

Preparations started right after Sarada Navaratri last year.

Sri Gnanananda Teertha Swamigal has been researching on Tantras, extracting pertinent information on setting the Rudra Mandalam for Ati Rudram. He drew the rudra mandalam himself using his computer skills. He was also working on the precise dimensions of the mandalam for the facility team to build! For Swamigal, age is just a fleeting thought! Our wish was to invite Vedic Ganapathis and Pundits from various parts of India as Ritwiks for the Ati Rudra Parayanam. We had to make travel arrangements and Hotel accommodations for all the Ritwiks coming from far off places.

To arrange for train tickets and manage Hotel accommodations for the 130  plus Ritwiks most of them coming from far off places from the extreme Southern part of India was a truly challenging task. We would like to mention a few names here who helped us to coordinate this task.

Sri Sunda Vadhyar from Chennai and Sri Seetharaman Ghanapati from Cochin helped us immensely in getting the Ritwiks from different places in South India and also coordinating all the Vedic rituals for the entire event. Sri Subramanian from Chicago was a great help in managing the complexity of allocating close to 80 hotel rooms from different hotels for the outstation Ritwiks. Sri Chandrashekhar Dravid from Varanasi helped us in organizing the 40 Veda pandits from Kashi. Our gratitude to each one of them for all their efforts.

We decided to bring the cooking team from our home town as that will allow us to provide familiar recipes for all attendees especially for Ritwiks for Ati Rudram. Lot of facilities related work like identifying the place to conduct the event, getting all the official clearances, identify contractors to build the Yagasala, work with them on the various dimensions etc., needed to be done. Generators were hired for electricity as the venue was just an open ground and the Yaagasala with 11 Homa kundams had to be erected after clean up and leveling of the uneven land.

Last but not least, we also wanted to document the Shiva Pooja with anushangam that is rarely used for Rudra japan in South India including the Mahanysam texts conforming to Bodhyanana tradition, in the major Indian languages like we normally have been doing for all the texts we publish.

A few of our Ashram disciples made multiple trips to Varanasi, to make sure that preparations are going at full speed. All hotels around the venue were blocked and booked for Ritwiks,

About 130+ priests from different cities of Tamilnadu and around 30 cooks from Trichy started their journey to Varanasi to serve us food starting March 26th! Idli grinders and other big utensils were being sent through train parcel service. Since we had an open invitation for all like minded people to join this event, we needed to get an expected headcount to help our logistics. A small team of volunteers quickly got into action, reaching out on the phone to all registered participants of 200+ people to confirm! Smt Meera and Sri Kannan from Chicago took care of the coordinating food distribution. Sri Sivakumar and Sri Balaji from Kanakadharini Catering took care of every minute details regarding Ritwik food and general food preparation and distribution. Smt Subhasri Kartik was available right from start to finish to support us in every way. We are immensely thankful to all the volunteers and donors for their selfless efforts. We are also grateful for the extensive support given by Koviloor Mutt and Udupi Mutt of Assi Ghat, Varanasi.

On one of our early trips to Kashi, we went to watch Ganga Aarti in Assi Ghat. At the end of the Aarti, we met with the organizers and the chief (Dr. Jha, Ph.D in Iconography) was very much impressed hearing about our parampara when we explained to him that we follow Sri Bhaskararaya who was challenged by Pundits in Kashi to describe the Chatush Shashti yoginis and Devi sat on his shoulder to whisper in his ears each of their names and description. We also told him that this all happened in Chausati Ghat in Kashi and the chief was very happy we knew about the 64 yoginis as he said “nobody in Kashi knows about these yoginis'' - he went on to explain how Kashi was formed by these yoginis as per wishes of Devi. He said they will support us in every way. We requested them to allow us to recite Lalitha Sahasranamam and Trishati at Assi Ghat right in front of Ganga after Ganga Aarti in the evening at about 7:30 pm during our event and he immediately obliged!

It was just wonderful to see a lot of work that was started months back, reaching their logical closure : Framing for tents  got complete, Ground is getting prepared for 11 homakundams,  About 160 kalasams and kamandalams arrived from Kumbhakonam, flowers, dhotis, asanas, bags, Homa articles like vasordharas and ahuti items arrived from Madurai, New Delhi, Hyderabad etc in the days leading to the event. Banners were printed and erected, Sound systems, Speakers, Lighting, Networks were being set up for the event! The reception team also set up a front desk with volunteers taking turns to help with questions and with tasks that needed to be done.

The publications and the review team were in full swing going through the Shiva Pooja documents carefully, fixing errors/typos with such speed and we got the documents printed as books, just in time for the event!

For effective communication, the reception team set up WhatsApp communities for attendees with daily updates. We reminded ourselves, all our disciples as well as attendees, to come, stay with an open heart and love into this ancient holy city to absorb all the positive vibrations the Vedic chants are going to emit!

We performed Sri Chakra Navavarana Puja and Devi Mahatmya Parayanam at Sri Chakra Lingeswarar sannidhi at Hanuman Ghat on March 24th. This is the Jeeva Samadhi Adhishtanam of Sri Chidambaranatha Yogi, Guru of one of the Carnatic Music Trinities Sri Muthuswamy Deekshidar. Sri Deekshidar lived in Kashi to learn music, esoterics, philosophy and Yoga from his Guru and erected Sri Chakralingeswara on top of his Guru’s samadhi. A Srichakram is inscribed on top of the lingam. It is a great blessing for us to do the Navavarana puja and Devi Mahatmyam parayanam here on the auspicious Pournami day. It is purely our Gurunathar's anugraham to be able to offer our prayers at the same place where Sri Muthuswamy Deekshidar offered his prayers.

And, a great coincidence is that day was Sri Deekshidar's Jayanti day (birth anniversary) - he was born on March 24, 1776!

On March 25th 2024, the first batch of priests and the entire cooking team arrived safely on time So we started service breakfast/lunch/dinner that morning at the Food tent that was set up adjacent to Udupi Mutt right opposite the Yagasala. Disciples and Registered participants also started to trickle in for the event. Our reception/facilities volunteer team did an awesome job in making sure their accommodation needs are taken care of, and also handed them food coupons to use throughout the event for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The 8 day event got kicked off with Vastu homam and Raakshoghna homam on Mar 25th! Through these days, our youth volunteers were busy, unpacking all the transported items, getting the  bags for the Ritwiks, arranging materials for the Pooja. We were particularly moved by our Youth Disciples who had come from various cities, leaving their academic/work pursuits, to participate in this event.

By the end of 25th, the tent for the event was beautifully set up in the area adjacent to Koviloor Mutt, with carpets covering the ground. On the stage, Swamigal worked tirelessly with the Vedic Pandits, in setting up the Pooja Areas. On the left was the Samba Parameshwara setup with the Lingam for which we were performing daily Rudrabhishekam and the monthly Ekadasa Rudra Parayanam and Abhishekam for the last one year and on the right side was set up the Pooja area for Chandika Mahalakshmi. In front of the main stage, 200 Bana lingams, brought in from Narmada by an Ashram devotee were consecrated and more than 10,000 Vilva Archana was performed every day.

In the middle, the Rudra Mandalam was majestically set up for the Ati Rudram -- visualizing a lotus flower. In the The Rudra Padma’s center, the 10 syllables of the mantra ‘OM Namo Bhagavate Rudraya’ reside. Around this center, there are 5 circles of petals. The circle closest to the center has 8 petals, the next circle has 16, the third circle has 24 petals, the fourth circle has 32 petals and the fifth circle has 40 petals. All the petals add to 120. Including the center, the total number of petals comes to 121! This Rudra padma was built into 6 increasingly bigger rectangular cubes with precise dimensions based on guidance from Sri Swamigal. While the top 5 cubes correspond to 5 circles in the Rudra Padma, the lowest cube has 22 devatas — 8 Naga linga, 10 Digpala and 4 Parivara Devatas for a total of 143 Devatas. Sri Swagimal also extracted the Pancha Rudra Avarna pooja texts from the Scriptures.

The Ati Rudram finally kicked off on Mar 27th, with the auspicious Go (Cow) pooja, followed by Ganga Pooja done in Assi Ghat standing on the Holy Ganges where all the kalasam were filled with the Ganga water and brought in procession by all our disciples to the venue. Devotees also brought in close to 200 litres of teertham(Holy waters) from the Holy Prayaga for filling up the Kalasams.

This was followed by Ganapathi Puja, Maha Sankalpam, Punyahavachanam, Ankurarpanam, Pratisara Bandham, Matruka, Yogini, Kshetrapala Puja, Ganapati Homam, Navagraha Homam, Nakshatra Homam and Shanti Homam followed by Purnahuti and Deeparadhana.

In the evening, we welcomed all the Ritviks and performed  Yagashala Pravesam, Kumbha Sthapanam and Aavaahanaadi Puja. We concluded the day with the Deeparadhana, Chaturveda Parayanam and Mangalaarati.

We also released the Shiva Puja book in Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu - thanks to the very hard work by the Publications team. At 338 pages, it has turned out to be a very comprehensive book, very handy for doing Shiva Aradhana by anyone.

From Mar 28th till April 1st, the events happened with such precision on time! We started the day around 6:30 AM with Guru Vandanam and Bodhayana Mahanyasam and the first round of Ekadasa Rudra Japam. While there was a breakfast break for Ritwiks, we had the Ashram Disciples chant Devi Mahatmyam with such finesse and precision that they completed in time for the 2nd round of Ekadasa Rudra Japam! This was followed by Rudrarchana & Deeparadhana and concluded with Samaradhana for all Ritwiks and lunch for the rest. Evenings started with the Rudram/Chamakam, Ghana Parayanam and concluded with the Deeparadhana, Chaturveda Parayanam and Mangalaarati.  Every evening, there was also Anugraha Bhashanam  by our father Brahmasri Yagnarathna Dikshidar.

We were so blessed, just to be listening to the Rudra Namaka and Chamaka Parayanam. A few of Salakshana Ghanapathis also introduced a lot of us to the Varna krama for the word “Namah Shivaya”. The detailed explanation for each syllable in the Panchakshari mantra Namahsshivaya was a treat to listen to. Very few Ghanapathis are currently in India who can describe the qualities and attributes for every syllable or Varna. We were fortunate to have a few of them participate in the Ati Rdram, With the Chatur Veda Parayanam, the Veda Ghanapathis offered Rig Veda, Shukla and Krishna Yajur Veda and Jaimini and Koutuma Sakha from Sama Veda. Just listening to their rendition was a divine experience and the chantings are still ringing in our ears.

At the conclusion of 14641 Rudra Japams on April 1st, the Ganga Aarti team was invited to offer the famous Aarti to the Kalasams on the stage. It was a treat to watch them perform in unison perfectly synchronised with the music. The same evening Annadanam for more than 1000 people was offered at the gates of the Yagasala.

On Apr 2nd, it was a sight to behold with eleven Rudra yagnas going concurrently. About 160 Ritwiks performed the Rudra Homa 11 times to complete the sankalpa of a minimum total of 1331Rudra Homas. First 10 times, the Homa was done with Shodha Vibhaga and the concluding 11th Rudra Homa was done using the Eka Navati Dwi Shatadha (291) Vibhaga.

On Apr 3rd, we performed the Satha Chandi homam as a final offering for this event. It was so heartening to see so many Ashram Disciples participate so enthusiastically.

As I always say, we are like the body or the frame of a chariot. For the chariot to move and to serve its purpose, it needs the wheels. Our disciples are those wheels who move us forward. As we look back, our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who took as this your own family event. We are especially proud of our youth disciples. With the hot weather, when some of the devotees fell sick, our Youth Volunteers sprung to action, dropping the food, medicines promptly to them. We are so grateful and thankful to each one of the attendees for travelling this far just to be with us to support!

They say it takes a village to raise a kid. It takes a community of villages to do Ati Rudram that too in Varanasi! Each one of us could feel the anugraha of Kasi Viswanatha, Visalakshi, Annapoorani and all the thirty three crores of Devatas residing in Kashi bestowing their grace on us. May the blessings of Guru Mandalam, Samba Parameshwara and  Devi continue to be with us every moment. May the vibrant power of mantras protect and inspire us. May our sadhana keep us on the Dharmic path!

Sharing a few glimpses from the event here, more will be uploaded shortly.

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha! Sri Maatre Namaha!

Namaskarams.

We wish each of you a wonderful new year 2024 filled with blessings of every kind.

Exactly one year ago we were all immersed in the divine energy radiated by Devi in the form of more than 1400 suvasinis. As we look back, our hearts overflow with gratitude. Sometimes words are not adequate to fully convey our emotions! The collective effort, dedication and the shraddha of our disciples and other Mandalis, helped us reach the 100,000 Devi Mahatmyam parayanams needed for the Laksha Chandi.

From logistics to registration, food to live coverage to daily events to taking care of our guests, we feel it is the years of Tapas by our Gurus in our Guru Parampara that made this event even possible. We are very fortunate to be reaping the fruits of their labour.  Our immense gratitude and blessings to the disciples and their families of BPA who have been with us at every single step. Each of you took this event as your daughter or son’s wedding event - putting all your efforts with full heart and soul in, which made Laksha Chandi and this Samarpanam possible

Our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the disciples from other Srividya Mandalis and to all the sponsors who have been the backbone of this Lakshachandi Samarpanam.  May Devi and the entire Guru Parampara’s benign grace be upon you.

Through out the year 2023, we have been traveling to cities based on our disciples request to conduct homams and Pujas in their communities. This took us far and wide within the US and to UK. Our heart felt gratitude and blessings to all these disciples who arranged these events with so much Bhakthi and Sincerity.

We welcome you whole heartedly and looking forward to experience divine energy of Ati Rudram Maha Yagnam with each one of you. Preparations are going on in full swing. Ati Rudra Maha Yagnam and Shata Chandi Homam in Varanasi - March 27 to April 03, 2024

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha, Sri Maatre Namaha!

With the blessings of Guru Mandala and Sāmba Parameshwara, on this auspicious day of Karthika Poornima when Lord Shiva manifests in the form of Agni (Fire), we are delighted to announce that we will be performing Ati Rudra Maha Yegnam and Shata Chandi Homam from March 27 to April 03, 2024 at Kovilur Math, Assi Ghat in Varanasi on the banks of the Holy river, Ganga.

Kāshi Punya Kshetram is an important place for our Bhaskara Prakasha Ashram as many Gurus in our parampara attained Siddhi in the river Ganga in Kāshi. This city has been the spiritual and religious capital of Bhārat for more than 2000 years and the entire city reverberates with the chants of Shiva mantra. It is also an important Shakti peeth and has temples for the nine forrms of Durga (Nava Durga). Hindu scriptures proclaim that any individual who takes a bath in the river Ganga becomes purified and free of sins.

It is our fortune that we will be performing the Ati Rudram Maha Yagnam and Shata Chandi Homam at Assi Ghat at the banks of Ganges where Goswami Tulsidas established Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir about 800 years back. It is believed that this temple was built at the same spot where Tulsidas had a vision of Lord Hanuman and wrote most of the verses of Ramcharitmanas.

The ruling deity is Kashi Vishwanatha in the form of Shiva Linga and Shiva is pleased by the chanting of Sri Rudram (Namakam). During Ati Rudram event, Sri Rudram will be chanted 14641 times while doing Abhishekam to Lord Shiva with the Holy water from river Ganga and this will be followed by 1331 times Sri Rudra Homam.

More than 130 Learned Vedic Priests and Ghana Pāthis belonging to all the four Vedas will be performing the

Ati Rudra Maha Yagnam. We will also be performing Shata Chandi Homam on the concluding day. It is interesting to note that, according to mythological beliefs Goddess Durga threw her sword after slaying the demons Sumbha and Nisumbha, and the Assi River originated from that spot.

It is a great blessing and opportunity for all of us to witness and participate in this auspicious event. We invite you all to attend to receive the blessings of Sāmba Parameswara. Please note that accomodations are easily available in Assi Ghat, but get filled up fast. Kindly plan your travel and book your hotel stay near the venue ahead of time.

Please register using the link below if you are planning to attend in person: https://bit.ly/atirudram-2024

August 6 & 7 - Bay Area Śatacaṇḍī Mahotsavam with Saundarya and Mānava Seva

Shri Gurubhyo Namaha, Sri Maatre Namaha!

With the Grace of our Guru Maṇḍalam and the ācāryās, the SF Bay Area’s 2022 śatacaṇḍī mahotsavam by Bhaskara Prakasha Ashram disciples will be performed on August 6th and 7th.

The preliminary pujas for the śatacaṇḍī mahotsavam will be performed on Saturday, August 6 at 3PM and on Sunday August 7, 2022 we will start at 6:45 AM with upaniṣad pārāyaṇam followed by mahā gaṇapati, navagraha, rāśi, dikpālaka, navākśarī mūla mantra homams and śrī caṇḍī hōmam. Details are given in the flyer below. Kindly register at https://bit.ly/satachandi2022 if you are planning to attend.

We are pleased to invite you to two unique pioneering events during the mahotsavam.

1. Saundaryā : Saundaryā will be a first of its kind Śata Suvāsinī Pūja invoking the Divine Mother Śrī Lalitā Mahātripurasundarī in 100 suvāsinīs — corresponding to each verse in Śrī Śankara Bhagavatpādā’s Śrī Saundarya Lahari. These 100 majestic Śikhariṇī verses will be sung in 10 beautiful rāgās as set forth by the sampradāya of our kulā’s Śrī Lalitā Sahasranāmam rendition. The event will be held around a life size Śrī Yantrā that will be specially consecrated for the occasions. Saundaryā will be held on Saturday, August 6th at 6PM.

2. Mānava sevā: Service to mankind is service to the Almighty. With the abundant Grace of Ambā and the guidance of the Gurus, Bhaskara Prakasha Ashram aims to serve the greater Bay Area during the SF Bay Area’s 2022 śatacaṇḍī mahotsavam this year. We plan to reach out to disadvantaged communities in the Bay Area through two avenues:

A. School Kits & Care Packages

Bhaskara Prakasha Ashram will be sponsoring back-to-school kits for approximately 150 children from underprivileged families in Bay Area.

The first set of charitable donations comprising of 100 backpacks and school supplies, will be donated to schools in rural Bay Area school districts. In addition, 45 back-to-school care packages will be donated to the children of families residing in Family Supportive Housing (FSH) shelter in San Jose. The FSH shelter provides temporary housing and targeted support to single-parent and two-parent families experiencing homelessness.

All supplies will be placed and blessed at the lotus feet of Goddess Caṇḍikā Mahālakśmī prior to distribution.

B. Food Service

Additionally, Bhaskara Prakasha volunteers will be cooking and serving lunch meals at the FSH facility once a month as a sustained sevā all through the year.

This two-pronged sevā is the first of its kind seva by BPA outside India and we invoke the abundant Grace of Goddess Caṇḍikā Mahālakśmī and Guru Maṇḍalam in order that the sevā efforts enjoy continued support from all.

The charitable donations and supplies will be blessed by the Gurus on August 7th towards the conclusion of the śatacaṇḍī mahotsavam.

If you would like to donate for any of the above, kindly visit our donation page.

Please join us on both days for this unique celebration which invokes and worships the Supreme Goddess in all Humanity.

Chicago Sahasrachandi 2022 - A Journey in Retrospection by Smt. Meera Kannan

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha! Sri Maatre Namaha!

With the blessings of the Guru Mandala and Goddess Shi Mahatripurasundari, Bhaskara Prakasha Ashram along with the Hanuman Mandir of Greater Chicago, Glenview, IL, celebrated both Sri Sahasrachandi Maha Yagnam and Sri Maharudra Yagnam concurrently  for the very first time in the Chicagoland Area from Thursday, June 30 to Monday, July 4, 2022. The two Mahayagnams were performed for  global well-being. Besides these, the Trishati Suvasini Pooja and the Sri Lalitha Sahasranamavali Koti Archana Samarpanam were celebrated. These huge yagnams and poojas were possible because of the benediction bestowed on us by  Sri Hanuman, the main deity of the temple in which all the prayers took place.

In 2019 when the sankalpam was taken for the Chicago Sahasrachandi Mahayagnam, the pandemic was nowhere in sight. In 2020 when the event was round the corner, the pandemic was upon us, and a difficult but practical decision was made to postpone the yagnas. This decision that seemed disappointing to so many of us, in retrospect, seems to have been a blessing. It has been a lesson in many ways: to trust Devi even when things are not going the way we would want them to and the realization of a benevolent and infinitely merciful mother who looks out for her children no matter what. The most positive outcome of the postponement of the events is having many new disciples of our illustrious parampara joining us this time around. We felt abundantly blessed with the opportunity to add the Maharudra yagna to the 5 day packed list of spiritual festivities.

On Wednesday the 29thof June, the preliminary prayers and Bali pujas were offered to Shodasha and Ashta Matrukas,Yoginis, Kshtrapala, Vastu and Navagraha for the uninterrupted and smooth conduct of the events. The Pujas started with the auspicious Go (Cow) pooja followed by Anugya from Guru and all the devatas of the Hanuman Mandir. On 30th June, Thursday morning, with Sahasramodaka (One thousand modakas) Ganapathy Homam was performed with Vaancha Ganapathy mantram followed by Navakshari Moola mantra Homam.

The highlights on Friday morning were Purusha Suktha, Sri Suktha, Navagraha, Rashi, Nakshatra, Srividya, Trishati, Navakshari and Hanuman Homam. It was overwhelming to see the Tishati Homam performed with 300 fresh Lotuses in each of the two Homa Kundams, At the end, when Purnathuti was offered, it looked as if Devi was seated on a forest of lotuses - literal to the invocatory mantra of Devi ‘Mahaa Padma Vanaantasthe, kaaranananda vigrahe’! May She bless us with unparalleled devotion to the lotus feet of our gurus and shraddha towards the purpose on hand.

Friday evening began with Upanishad rendition, followed by selections from Adi Sankara Bhagavatpada’s Soundarya Lahari rendered and led most soulfully by Smt. Priya Paramesh and Sri. Paramesh Gopi, senior disciples of the Ashram, in the same raga sequence as Sri Sri Vimarshananda Nathendra Saraswati Swamigal’s revered rendition of Sri Lalitha Sahasranama Stotram. The whole hall  throbbed with ethereal energy.

This was followed by Sri Lalitha Sahasranamavali Koti Archana Samarpanam. In July 2019 the disciples of Bhaskara Prakasha Ashram took a sankalpam of completing a Koti (10 Million) Archana of the Lalitha Sahsaranamavali. Typically this endeavor runs for several months, sometimes a couple of years, but with the grace of the Gurumandala, the Koti Archana was completed within months and well within a year of taking the sankalpam just as it has been with the spectacular effort of the Laksha Chandi Mahayagnam. Disciples worldwide took part in the Koti Archana as the global pandemic hit us and people continued to pray from their homes and connected with each other through Google Meet and Conference call sessions. The total count at the end of the samarpanam stands at 1.45 crore. The US Midwest along with disciples from all over is humbled and blessed by the opportunity to offer the samarpanam of the Koti archana. 189 performed the kumkumarchana - we were able to offer to Her lotus feet 189,000 archanas that evening. The atmosphere was electric.

The Maharudra Yagna on Saturday, July 2nd morning commenced with the Bodhayana Mahanyasam with Sri Rudram and Chamakam parayanam and Homams. The decision of conducting the Maharudram created lot of enthusiasm and the fervor of the disciples was inspiring. The efficacy of Maharudram is well known as a panacea for all ills and the bountiful blessings that it showers on all.

The highly auspicious Trishati Suvasini Pooja took place on the evening of July 2nd, in which 300 Suvasinis were deemed as Devi Herself and and invoked with a naama (name) from the Sri Lalitha Trishati with pujas and sowbhagya dravyas offered to her to seek their blessings. The Trishati Suvasini Pooja is a rarity, especially in a place like North America, as 300 suvasinis to assemble under the same roof is quite a challenge. Everyone who was present that day was moved by the beauty and majesty of the august assembly. Each suvasini was offered the panchopachara after invocation and was honored with vastram and namaskaram.  The solemn pooja  was given a fitting conclusion by the stately Chenda Melam performance as an Upachara to  Devi’s presence in the form of the Trishati suvasinis.

Sunday was devoted to Devi worship in the form of 2 Chandi Homams offered in 2 homa kundams. 42 Homa Riwiks assembled very early in the morning and were all set to perform the Chandi Homams one after another. It was extremely inspiring to see all the 42 of them sitting around the Holy Fire for 8 hours with all sincerity and dedication. We could complete 84 Chandi Homams that morning!

The seed for this Sahasra Chandi Mahayagnam was planted in 2019 with Devi Mahatmyam parayanams being done with devotion and fervor. Most of these 1000 Devi Mahatmyam Parayanams were done in person with disciples hosting these sessions in their homes. During the pandemic online parayanams were carried out and early this year as a culmination of the Sahasrachandi effort and to ease into the Mahayagnam, in-person parayanams were resumed  by a host of disciples in the Chicagoland most of these being relatively new learners of the sacred text during the pandemic time when Guru Sri Raghu and Akhila manni took up teaching of the text.

The evening program on Sunday  included the much anticipated Anugraha Bhashanam of our beloved Sri Sri Yegnarathnam Deekshidar mama who has a natural flair for expressing the most abstruse thoughts in the simplest of terms.  Early that evening, donors, ritviks and volunteers were acknowledged for their absolute devotion to the purpose on hand. They were the backbone of the 5 day austerities.  We acknowledged the presence of many devotees of Bhaskara Prakasha Ashram who flew in from Toronto, New Jersey, Virginia, Dayton, Columbus, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Denver, Austin, Atlanta, San Diego and the Bay Area. It was indeed a Mahotsavam due to all of their presence!

On Monday, July 4th 2022 the final day of the festivities, the 3rd and concluding Chandi homam was performed to seek Devi’s blessings for good health, peace and well being of all.  We were blessed with rejuvenating showers later that evening; it was the most fulfilling sign of Devi’s acceptance of our offerings over the last 5 days. Sri Rudram from the Krishna Yajurveda and Sri Devi Mahatmyam from the Markandeya Purana are the most powerful hymns offered to Lord Shiva and Shakthi. The combined prayers of both Mahayagnam were spellbinding. Devi’s infinite compassion allowed all of us to congregate and celebrate her glory for protecting the world through punishing  times. May we all come together soon on another joyous celebration!

 Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavanthu!!

Join us for Ten Week Sādhana on Soundaryalahari!

With the benign blessings of Bhagawatpāda Adi Shankarāchārya and our Guru Parampara, we will be learning Soundarya Lahari starting this Sunday at 7.30 PM IST (India time), 6AM PST / 9 AM EST.

Every week we will have five classes Sunday to Thursday at the same time. Classes will be for about 30 minutes. We will be learning the stotram in two ways. First we will learn how to chant the stotram correctly with proper pronunciation. Then we will learn in a musical way.

Soundarya Lahari has 100 verses and we will learn every set of 10 verses in one Rāgā. Thus we will have 10 set of Rāgās for chanting the entire Soundarya Lahari. We will use the same set of Rāgās we used for our Lalitha Sahasranama Stotram.

Smt. Priya Paramesh from California, an exponent in Carnatic Music, an ardent devotee of Devi and devoted disciple of Bhāskara Prakāsha Ashram, will be teaching us the stotram in musical way. She will be assisted by Sri Paramesh Gopi, Smt Mahinta Karthik and Sri Karthik Lakshmi Narayanan.

At the end of each verse we will give a brief meaning and discuss about its relevance to Srividya Upasana.

As our samarpanam to Adi Shankaracharya, let us do the Soundaryalahari sādhanā together for the next 10 weeks. If Devi wills, we will perform a global recitation of Soundarya Lahari on May 6th, 2022, on the Sankara Jayanthi day.

Further details about this class is on this YouTube recording below:

Let's learn Shyāmala Dandakam during Shyāmala Navarātri!

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha, Sri Maatre Namaha.

The first nine nights of worship during the lunar month of Magha are dedicated to Raja Matangi and are also called Gupta Navaratri and Shyamala Navaratri. Raja Matangi, also called Raja Shyamala, is the Prime Minister of Maha Tripurasundari. In Sri Lalitha Sahasranamam, Shyamala devi, who is blue in color, is referred to as Mantrini, and she rides the chariot Geyachakra attending Maha Tripurasundari (GeyachakrarathAruDha mantriNi parisevitA)

Shyamala Devi governs speech, music, knowledge, and the arts. Her worship is prescribed to acquire supernatural powers which include: gaining control over enemies, attracting people to oneself, acquiring mastery over the arts, and gaining supreme knowledge. One who approaches Maha Tripurasundari after availing the grace of Raja Matangi is certain to attain the grace of mahArAjni, without a doubt.

With blessings of our Gurumandala and Devi, we completed the extensive study of Sarva Siddhikari Stotram, also called Devi Stuti, based on the commentary written by Sri Bhaskararaya at the beginning of his magnum opus work Setubandha.  You can find the playlist of these sessions here: bit.ly/DeviStutiStudy

Now, during this auspicious Shyamala Navaratri, we will be learning Shyamala Dandakam, one of the greatest stotras written by the great poet Mahakavi Kalidasa, which eulogizes the Goddess Shyamala Devi. Dandakam is a style of poetry where some lines have more than 26 syllables and it almost resembles prose.

We will be teaching this stotra in a musical way where the verses are set to tune in different ragas by Late Sri K.S. Kameswaran who was our Guru Sri Sri VImarshananada Nathendra Swamigal’s poorvāsrama brother. He was a great exponent of Carnatic Classical Music and was well versed in Sanskrit apart from being a Sri Vidya Upasaka.

These classes will be streamed live starting first day of Navaratri starting February 1st in North America at 5:30PM (February 2nd at 7AM IST) through our Youtube channel.

As we celebrate the auspicious nine nights of Shyamala Navaratri, let's bow down to the Supreme Goddess and seek her blessings for the welfare of the universe.

Wish you all a blessed New Year 2022!

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha! Sri Maatre Namaha!

Wishing everyone a very happy, healthy and progressive New Year 2022! With our Gurunathas blessings and all of your support and best wishes, we had a very active and a blessed 2021. As we look back, the whole world welcomed 2021 with a lot of trepidation and uncertainty as the Pandemic was still looming. For a lot of us, the Sankalpam for the Laksha Chandi was the antidote that gave us hope and a sense of purpose. Chandi gave us courage, self confidence and peace to deal with difficult times.

We started the year with the Laksha Chandi Yagna Homams at Bangalore and during the auspicious Maagha Gupt Navaratri at Chennai in our Ashram. Thanks to enthusiastic participation of Devi Upasakas around the world, by the beginning of March, we had completed 50,000 parayanams towards the Laksha Chandi Homa Sankalpam. With the blessings of our Guru Mandala and the boundless grace of Sri Chandi Mahalakshmi, for the first time ever, BPA disciples performed 26 hours of continuous (Akhanda) chanting of Adhyaaya Devata Sahita Devi Mahatmyam during this year’s Maha Shivaratri.

In March, we also did Laksha Chandi Yagna Yātrā to Varanasi for performing Chandi homam in the place where our Sri Gurus have lived or did their Atma Sadhana. We were immensely blessed to do the Devi Mahatmyam parayanam on the Bhoumaswini day right inside the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Chakralingeswara consecrated by Bhaskararāya.

In April, during the Vasanta Navaratri, we conducted the second Akhanda Navaratri Mahotsavam – ten days and ten nights of continuous prayer to Devi and logging close to 5,000 Devi Mahatmya parayanams during this time. All BPA disciples across the world joined together to complete this Akhanda parayanam without a slightest glitch.

In July, for the Āshādha Navaratri 2021, Maha Vārāhi was celebrated and after completing 465 Chandi Homams in various locations in India for Laksha Chandi Sankalpam, we travelled to Canada to continue performing the Homams for the Laksha Chandi. With apāra karuna of Guru mandalams and Sri Chandika Mahalakshmi, we were able to complete 117 Chandi Homams by the end of August, just in Toronto -- a Sahasrachandi in itself!

Our Canada, East Coast, Midwest, Florida and West coast USA disciples did an exemplary job hosting the Devi Mahatmyam parayanams and the Laksha Chandi Homams since then. With everyone’s support, we have now completed 792 Chandi Homams towards Laksha Chandi sankalpam. In all the pujas and homams, we could see the participation of our disciples chanting the Devi Mahatmyam with great faith and devotion. We feel the presence of Devi and Her guiding hand in everything that takes place.

On Nov 15th 2021 at 4.28PM PST - in a mere 450 days- we completed 100,000 parayanams, in what seemed initially as an utterly impossible and an incredibly futile target to pursue. It is serendipitous that on the Uttana Ekadashi day when Lord Vishnu would wake up from his yoga Nidra, the completion of the 1 lakh parayanams took place! This collective effort, dedication and the shraddha of our disciples and other Mandalis, have helped us complete the laksha parayanams. Each one of you with your parayanam contributions have enabled us all to work towards Loka Kalyana.

Soon after we completed the 100,000 parayanams, it was a pure serendipity that we could perform Chandi homam with Ashthothra Suvasini Pooja at the VVGC Temple in San Martin, CA which also has a Goshala. Just as we were getting ready, a calf was born!

While Laksha Chandi related activities were in full swing, we sincerely believe in teaching for the sincere seekers and we continued our Vedic Curriculum and started Kids Curriculum classes this year. We completed teaching the Taittiriya Upanishad followed by stotrams like Guru and Tripura Sundari Prātah samaranam, Dakshinamurthy stotram, Devi Vaibhava Ascharya Ashtottram, Lalitha Sahasranamam & Trisati. We also focussed our efforts on teaching Sri Rudram and materials from the BPA curriculum for those who have gotten the deeksha from our Guru Parampara. Inspired by the global community’s response to our Devi Mahatmyam 2020 classes and with our desire for learning to continue so we can reach more students across the world, in Gurukula style, at their own pace, we released the Bhaskara Prakasha Ashram Mobile App. It is so heartening to hear from so many how this App is making the learning so much easier.

Beginning January 2022, we will be teaching through our YouTube channel and Facebook page, Adi Shankaracharya’s Soundaryalahari set to melodious raagas and a few more important stotras on Devi as given in the Tantras. Please subscribe to our You Tube channel and join our Telegram channel receive notification when the classes are scheduled.

This year has been a one-of-a-kind journey filled with uncertainties for all of us. When we started teaching the Devi Mahatmyam online early 2020, we honestly had no inkling of the events that were to unfold! With thousands of students learning, hundreds of the Ashram Volunteers stepped up enthusiastically to mentor these eager students. Later when we took the Sankalpam for Laksha Chandi, we were intimidated by the enormity of what we had undertaken, especially because there was no precedent of a similar endeavor to instill hope in our hearts, at least in recent history. The infinite mercy and grace of Our Guru mandalam and Chandi Mahalakshmi have been with us every step of the way. They took the responsibility for us. As we welcome the new year, we pray for the continued mercy and blessings and the well being of the entire world.

May the New Year be filled with joy and contentment. May the blessings of Sri Guru and Devi be on us every moment. May the vibrant power of mantras protect and inspire us. May our minds lead us to tread on the Dharmic path!

सर्वे जना: सुखिनो भवन्तु।

100,000 Devi Mahatmyam Parayanams completed!!

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha, Sri Maatre Namaha!

Namaste.

We are very happy - elated - to share with all of you the reaching of a momentous milestone in our Laksha Chandi odyssey. We started to traverse this uncharted territory on Aug 22nd, 2020.

On Nov 15th 2021 at 4.28PM PST - in a mere 450 days- we completed 100,000 parayanams, in what seemed initially as an utterly impossible and an incredibly futile target to pursue. It is serendipitous that on the Uttana Ekadashi when Lord Vishnu would wake up from his yoga Nidra, the completion of the 1 lakh parayanams took place!

The fruition of this lofty sankalpam  of Laksha Chandi is undoubtedly due to the benevolent blessings of the Guru Mandala, Sri Chandi Mahalakshmi and the earnest efforts of our Disciples and Devi Upasakas all over the world. We are humbled and filled with gratitude for this unstinting support, worldwide.

To put the scope of the sankalpam in perspective, to complete 100,000 parayanams assuming each parayanam takes approx 2 hours 30 mins, we will need 250,000 hours which is 10416 days or 28.53 years! Two people doing  parayanam continuously for 24 hours would take a full 14 years to complete it! This Laksha Chandi is a beautiful example of what collective synergy for common good can accomplish. Close to 17,000 times Parayanam submissions were made by BPA disciples and devotees around the globe!

This Laksha Chandi has been a one-of-a-kind journey filled with uncertainties for all of us. When we started teaching the Devi Mahatmyam online early last year, we honestly had no inkling of the events that were to unfold!.

It was and it still is so heartening to see so many disciples doing online (Youtube) and offline (individual) parayanams. When we hear of disciples doing 2-3 parayanams a day, or disciples squeezed for time with their family and work commitments still managing to do parayanams, or when disciples from other Mandalis tell how they are getting so used to daily chanting of Devi Mahatmyam that they want us to continue that tradition even after Laksha Chandi, it just moves and humbles us.

This collective effort, dedication and the shraddha of our disciples and other Mandalis, have helped us complete 100K parayanams. Each one of you with your parayanam contributions have enabled us all to work towards Loka Kalyana.

Traditionally 10,000 Chandi Homams are required to complete the Laksha Chandi Maha Yagnam, which is difficult to complete in one’s lifetime. We have chosen to take up the alternative method provided by Tantras to do 10,000 additional Parayanams and a total of 1000 Chandi Homams for completion of Laksha Chandi Maha Yagnam.

As we move briskly towards the completion of the 10k Devi Mahatmyam Parayanams for Loka Kshemam and Loka Kalyanam, we humbly request you for your sustained support  replete with strong faith that our Gurumandala and Sri Chandika Mahalakshmi will continue to inspire and guide us.

We are very happy to share pictures of some of our BPA disciples who have been regularly doing Devi Mahatmyam Parayanams individually or as a group and pictures of Chandi Homams in various locations since the Sankalpam was taken in August, 2020. Our hearts are filled with gratitude to these devotees for their dedication and support!
